This passage showcases the exceptional sailing of Penobscot Bay, starting and ending in Rockland, ME. This area, known as Down-East Maine, is full of wonderful sights, challenging navigation, amazing hiking, and gorgeous anchorages. These four days aboard Panda ROSSO will make you fall in love, just as we have, for Maine’s rugged coast.
SAIL TRAINING:
Our trips aboard Panda ROSSO can be as informative and lesson-oriented as you wish. Though we don’t yet offer a formal curriculum, you will get hands-on training in every aspect of sailing. Some common topics include weather forecasting, route planning, sail trim, safety at sea, radar navigation, boat handling, and anchoring / mooring.
ITINERARY:
We choose our itinerary based on the weather, each day we will sail to one to two spots. Some of these include: Hurricane Island, North Haven, Castine, Buck's Harbor, Deer Isle, Calderwood Island, Seal Bay, Stonington, McGlathery Island, Isle Au Haut, Swan's Island and Mount Desert Island.
WEATHER:
Once we leave port, we get what we get. On our passages, we expect there to be a mix of fair sunny days, chilly evenings, fog, rain, strong wind and light air. Sometimes it can be uncomfortable, but we will find a safe, protected anchorage by the end of the day. Simply put, we do not control the weather, but that’s part of the adventure! We will make the best of it, no matter the conditions.
Details:
Dinghy pickup in Rockland’s harbor. Flights to Knox County Airport (RKD), hosted by Cape Air with connections to larger hubs. Or, alternatively flights into Portland (PWM) with a shuttle service to Rockland with Sterling Elite.
PRICE:
Our prices are all-Inclusive, meaning we cover all costs once onboard. We provide all meals, snacks, refreshments, and evening sundowners. However, we do not cover your transportation to and from the program and any meals/drinks ashore. We do pickup any mooring or docking fees. Just get to us and we will take it from there!
